Your Complete Wedding Day Photography Checklist for 2026–2027

Your wedding day will fly by, and your photos are what will last forever. Over the years, I’ve learned that having a clear checklist ensures no moment is missed, from the quiet prep in the morning to the last dance at night. I want to share my complete wedding day photography checklist so you can plan your day confidently and get the images you’ll cherish forever.

Before the Wedding Day

I like to help couples prepare in advance to make the photography process smooth:

  • Confirm timeline with your photographer — We’ll review your schedule to make sure every moment fits naturally.

  • Finalize must-have shots — Decide which family portraits or special details are non-negotiable.

  • Organize details for photography — Dress, shoes, rings, invitations, and bouquets should be in one place for quick access.

  • Assign a point person — Someone to gather family and bridal party for photos helps the day run smoothly.

See my Wedding Photography Timeline Tips for guidance on when these shots fit best.

Morning & Prep Shots

The morning sets the tone for your wedding photos:

  • Hair and makeup in progress

  • Dress or suit details, shoes, jewelry, and rings

  • Candid prep shots of the bridal party or groom getting ready

  • First look preparation (if you plan one)

I always suggest starting early so there’s time to capture calm, authentic moments before the excitement of the day begins.

Ceremony Must-Haves

Ceremony shots are critical because they capture the emotional heart of your day:

  • Entrance of the couple and bridal party

  • Reactions from family and friends

  • Vows, ring exchange, and the first kiss

  • Wide shots of the venue and decor

  • Candid moments between guests

See examples in my Portfolio of ceremonies I’ve captured.

Post-Ceremony & Portraits

After the ceremony, there’s a window to capture portraits and group shots:

  • Couple portraits (romantic, candid, and styled shots)

  • Bridal party photos

  • Immediate family shots

  • Shots with extended family or close friends

I like to keep this part relaxed while still hitting every important combination so no one is missed.

Reception & Celebration

The reception is full of moments you won’t want to forget:

  • Venue and table details, décor, cake, and favors

  • First dance, parent dances, and speeches

  • Guests dancing, laughing, and enjoying the celebration

  • Cake cutting and bouquet/garter toss

  • Final send-off photos (sparklers, confetti, or other traditions)

Extra Tips for a Smooth Day

  • Be flexible — Some of the best photos happen spontaneously.

  • Trust your photographer and videographer — I’ll guide posing and timing so you don’t feel rushed.

  • Keep details organized — Having all small items ready helps me capture them quickly.

  • Communicate special moments — Let me know if there are surprises or important people to prioritize.
